BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Bloomfield Police arrest a woman in connection with an arson fire that's displaced 16 residents and sent one person to the hospital.

Police are charging Maria Salas, 70, with arson in connection with the fire at the Woodside Avenue Apartments on Dorothy Drive around 3 a.m. Friday morning.

Salas, according to police, allegedly muttered that she set the fire, while officers were assisting a resident out of the building.

The American Red Cross is part of the response with Bloomfield Social Services to assist the displaced residents.

An 89-year-old woman who lived at the residence is being treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire department extinguished the fire, and the building is deemed uninhabitable.

    Bond for Salas is $500,000.
