Calhoun Highway Still Shut Down Near Shannon Road After Wreck

Friday afternoon Floyd County Emergency Management reported a wreck involving a dump truck and a power pole at the intersection of Ga. 53 and Shannon Road N.E.

The incident caused the power pole to snap, bringing down power lines across the roadway and forcing a complete closure of all lanes on Ga. 53 in the area.

A small grass fire was also ignited after the power pole snapped. Outbound traffic from Rome was detoured onto West Hermitage Road, while inbound drivers were forced to make a U-turn back onto Ga. 53 near Shannon Road.

The wreck resulted in widespread power outages, with many residents in the surrounding area also reporting AT&T internet service disruptions.
