TAVARES, Fla. (CohenConnect) – A Florida man is in jail, accused of stealing an e-bike from in front of a convenience store, and the description the owner gave police helped solve the case.

An officer wrote about meeting the owner at the Circle K on the morning of Sept. 2.

According to the arrest report, “He had parked his e-bike near the front entrance of the Circle K while he entered the store.

“[The victim] stated that he conducted his business within, and exited to find that his e-bike was no longer where he had left it.

“[The victim] advised that he looked towards State Road 19 and observed a [man] ‘taking off’ towards US Highway 441.

“[The victim] described his bike as being a blue in color Pedego valued at approximately $2,500.”

And if that was too common, “[The victim] advised that the bike sported a sticker with the words ‘I love peeing outside’ on the frame.”

    Finding that didn’t take long.

Only about 40 minutes later, a sergeant saw a man “riding a bicycle which matched the description provided by [the victim], on the sidewalk of US Highway 441.

“[The sergeant] observed a sticker on the e-bike’s frame and initiated a traffic stop.

“[The sergeant] confirmed that the sticker on the e-bike’s frame was the same that had been described by [the victim].

“The e-bike rider identified himself as Devon Racine and spontaneously uttered that he had borrowed the e-bike from the Circle K by [address] with the intention of returning it.”

The victim, without transportation, was brought to the scene “and verified that the aforementioned e-bike [with the sticker] belonged to him.

“Devin was transported to the Lake County Jail without incident.

“It should be noted,” the first officer wrote in the arrest report, “that [the sergeant] requested that I notate that Devon had been entirely honest and cooperative with him during their interaction.”

That hasn’t scored Racine any points, at least not yet.

The 23-year-old is charged with grand theft between $750 and $5,000, his bond was set at $1,000 but it hasn’t been paid, and he has already spent two-and-a-half weeks in jail.

Ha! Funny sticker, but it's right up there with "This Car Stops At All Bars" in its level of intelligence.
