MANSFIELD — Week 5 was very kind to Richland County high school football teams.

They went a combined 5-3 with both winless squads entering Friday picking up their first wins of the season. Let's run down the latest scores.

Mansfield Senior 20, New Philadelphia 19 (OT)

The Tygers picked up their first win in dramatic fashion.

With the score tied 13-13 after regulation, New Philly scored on its OT possession but a bad snap ended the extra-point attempt. And that was when the Tygers reached into their bag of tricks.

Guy Trader caught a 20-yard pass from wide receiver Ny Petty on a double pass, and Griffin DeBolt booted the game-winning extra point.

Offensively, the Tygers (1-4, 1-1 OCC) had just 153 yards, as Isaiah Darson ran for 47 yards on 14 carries with a nine-yard touchdown to start the second quarter. Ryan Au added 35 yards on seven touches with a 12-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown and Jordan Ferguson ran for 22 on three carries. Ferguson completed 7 of 21 passes for 36 yards and Petty completed his lone attempt for the OT touchdown. Tai Pickett caught three passes for 24 yards while Trader added three catches for 23 yards and a score.

The Tyger defense held New Philly to 155 yards of total offense, 47 on the ground and 108 through the air. Maurice Bradley II returned to action after missing three weeks with an ankle injury and piled up 10 tackles, two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Symirr Phillips added 10 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss while Carter Kessler added eight tackles, 2.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. In all, the Tyger defense had 10 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.

Caudill added two rushing touchdowns and hit Brayden Fogle for an 18-yard touchdown pass to make it 34-21 after three quarters.

The Minutemen put the game on ice when Caudill launched his third touchdown pass of the game, hitting Fogle for a 20-yard score.
