Utah vs Oklahoma State Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

Is this it? Is this really a preview of the Big 12 Championship?

Oklahoma State still has to deal with Kansas State on the road - that’s coming up next week - but after that it’s not all that bad.

Utah doesn’t have to deal with Kansas State, but it has to go on the road for a few nasty games, and hosts Arizona, Iowa, State, and other tough teams, but this is really it.

Beat this terrific Oklahoma State team in Stillwater, and the Utes have the inside track to get to the conference title game.

It’s the second meeting between the two. The first was a 46-6 Oklahoma State victory in 1945.

    Why Utah Will Win

The Utes should have their guy.

QB Cameron Rising should be back from a hand injury, and even if he’s not the offense should still be okay. Not quite as dynamic as it should be, but okay.

Oklahoma State got thrown on by the Arkansas offense given up 416 yards, but the Utes don’t have to crank up a ton of big plays down the field. As long as Rising - or freshman Isaac Wilson - can keep the chains moving, all will be fine.

The Hogs were able to bottle up OSU star RB Ollie Gordon, and Utah’s great defensive front isn’t likely to get pushed around for more than 150 rushing yards.

As long as the offense can keep controlling the clock or close to 35 minutes, and if the third down plays are there against a Cowboy D that’s giving those up at a 40% click …

    Why Oklahoma State Will Win

    Utah is on the road.

It beat Utah State in Logan last week, but that wasn’t really a normal road game. It was, but it wasn’t like going to Arizona last year - a 42-18 Wildcat win.

Against Power Five/now Four programs Utah is 6-9 in its last 15 games away from Salt Lake City, and it’s 1-7 in its last eight games away from home against ranked teams.

Oklahoma State might not have the power of Utah, but it has a veteran quarterback in Alan Bowman, an offensive line that’s been brilliant so far - the team is tied for the nation lead in fewest sacks allowed - and …

Utah vs Oklahoma State: Who Will Win

This is a bit bigger for Oklahoma State than it is for Utah, again, partly because of the schedule and with this a home game.

Mike Gundy’s offense will be up to the task.

It won’t crank out a ton of points and yards against this Utah defense, but it’ll bring a surprisingly decent pass rush from a D that will bend without doing much breaking, and the energy level will be off the charts.

The Cowboys will party like it’s 1945.
