Cathedral City racks up 438 yards, six TDs on the ground in win over Arroyo Valley

Cathedral City High School drove 80 yards on its opening drive and scored a touchdown that set off a 40-24 high school football win over Arroyo Valley on Thursday. The Lions never trailed in the game.

Senior running back Noah Gannon had a particularly big night. He finished with 293 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Trace Vargas scored a pair of touchdowns and senior Joseph Worsley added another.

As a team, the Lions (2-2) recorded 438 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

But it wasn't a dominant performance from start to finish. The Lions were unable to finish multiple drives in the first half, and head coach Richard Lee said that his team played flat. Just two of the six touchdowns came before the intermission.

Then, with some adjustments and time to re-focus, Cathedral City dominated the second half.

"We literally played like a different team in the second half," Lee said.

Cathedral City will play at San Gorgonio on Friday.
