NORTH PORT – North Port Police are investigating the reported thefts of several campaign signs of City Commission District 1 candidate Barbara Langdon and District 3 candidate Andrew Sias.

Police spokesman Josh Taylor confirmed both complaints, though incident reports were not immediately available.

Langdon is running against Josh Smith for s second term in District 1 and stressed that she doesn't believe Smith is involved in the thefts of two signs or destruction of two other large campaign signs.

Sias, who is running against his friend David Duval to succeed Debbie McDowell in District 3, said he did not know of anyone who would steal his signs.

Taylor said that there was a poor quality video of one of the thefts of Sias’ signs.

The third commission race, District 2, features incumbent Alice White and challenger Demetrius Petrow.

The candidates are all scheduled to appear at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and at a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County at the Shannon Staub Public Library, 4675 Career Lane.

Five of the six candidates will be present, with Langdon unavailable.

The forum had originally been scheduled for Sept. 23 but was changed to the new date – after Langdon had confirmed an out-of-area trip – when the library meeting room was not available.
