Popular breakfast spot in Tamarac, Florida, was cited for 20 inspection violations in Broward County

The IHOP location at 6101 N University Dr. in Tamarac, Florida, was cited for 20 violations, including seven high-priority infractions, during a recent inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation on September 17. While the restaurant in Broward County was not forced to close, it required a follow-up inspection to address these concerns.

The initial visit revealed seven high-priority, three intermediate, and 10 basic violations. A follow-up inspection on September 17 found only two remaining violations, allowing the restaurant to meet inspection standards.

IHOP, known for its pancakes and American breakfast fare, holds a 4.1-star rating from 2,133 Google reviews.

High-priority violations included roach activity, with one live roach found in a cabinet containing single-serving items, according to the inspector's note.

Food temperature management was also a central issue, with various items held at unsuitable temperatures. This resulted in a stop-sale order for these items.

The inspector also observed employees failing to wash their hands properly before engaging in food preparation. Raw animal foods were not correctly separated in the freezer, though this was corrected on-site.

Intermediate violations included soiled food-contact surfaces and misuse of handwashing sinks. Basic violations ranged from mold in the ice machine to food trash buildup on equipment.

IHOP in Tamarac took immediate corrective actions during the inspection, such as discarding incorrectly stored food and reorganizing raw ingredients in the freezer. The restaurant addressed most issues by the follow-up inspection the next day.

    High Priority Violations:

    • Live roach activity
    • Unsuitable cold holding temperatures for various food items
    • Employees not following proper handwashing procedures
    • Incorrect storage of raw animal foods
    • Time/temperature management for safety food without proper time marking
