Save the Date for Free National Park Admission for National Public Lands Day

For 30 years we’ve celebrated our love of nature and the places that belong to all of us with National Public Lands Day. On the 4th Saturday in September, national parks are free for anyone to visit, and at the same time, thousands of volunteers help clean up and maintain our public spaces.

On Saturday, September 28th, you can visit any national park without paying an entrance fee. While there are only 63 places that are named national parks, there are over 400 sites that fall under the national park system, covering every state. These include national recreation areas, monuments, seashores, and nature preserves.

Many national park sites don’t normally charge a fee, but the more popular ones do. The National Park Service maintains a list of fee charging parks in every state that will be free on National Public Lands Day.

You can also find opportunities to volunteer at a site near you. National parks are looking for help with weeding and invasive plant removal, trail maintenance, special projects, and especially with litter pick-up, because the sad truth is that there are people who don’t treat our public spaces with the respect they deserve.
