The Boston Red Sox fell to the Minnesota Twins 4-2 in extra innings on Friday night at Fenway Park, but they still got another good performance from an intriguing pitcher.

Boston sent rookie right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts to the mound for his third MLB start, and he was great again, tossing five scoreless innings while surrendering five hits and a walk. He struck out three batters.

The 24-year-old has been on an impressive run to begin his career. Through three games, he's yet to allow an earned run on 13 hits and five walks while striking out seven batters over 15 2/3 innings.

The Red Sox acquired Fitts last offseason from the New York Yankees in a rare trade between division rivals for outfielder Alex Verdugo with the hope that he'd develop into a back-of-the-rotation starter at some point.

If he keeps pitching like this, he could earn a spot to start the 2025 season and help Boston compete for the playoffs when they have more talent.
