BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – The family of Gregory Delpeche, a bystander shot by police at a Brooklyn subway station last week, is calling for accountability.

“My cousin’s fighting for his life,” said a family member. “There’s no reason why he should be shot.”

Body-worn camera footage of the shooting was released Friday, opening new questions for activists and elected officials about the police’s use of force in the shooting.

Four people, including two bystanders and a police officer, were injured in the shooting that happened after police pursued a man for fare evasion, police said.

“This was completely avoidable, and the video footage should disturb all New Yorkers,” representatives of the Legal Aid Society said in a statement.

I truly feel sorry for her cousin. I will not accuse her cousin of any wrongdoing. But you do see people just sitting there or filming with their phones. While there was obviously a confrontation with a person with a knife and the officers legit having their firearm out. Back away, and you could still firm everything. Stay out of the way of possible danger.

There will be accountability- the City will pay your civil claim for the injury you sustained in a City-involved action.
