Thorsby High School dropped a back-and-forth game on the road to Hale County High School 33-19 on Sept. 20.

The Rebels kept pace with unbeaten Hale County through three quarters as Grayson McManus punched in a 12-yard touchdown run to negate the home team’s opening touchdown and tie the game at 6-6. McManus gave Thorsby the lead in the second quarter with a short touchdown run, but Hale County responded right back to tie the game again going into halftime at 12-12.

The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter too with Hale County striking first before McManus took in his third touchdown run of the night, his longest one from 25 yards out. The score was deadlocked at 19 after three quarters, and in the final frame, Hale County was able to reclaim the lead with a rushing touchdown and ice it away with a pick six on Thorsby’s ensuing possession.

Thorsby (2-3) will have its bye week before taking the field again on Oct. 4 for its next game hosting Thomasville High School back in Class 3A Region 3 play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
