There is finally some news after a week of back-and-forth speculation about veteran quarterback Cam Rising's status in the leadup to Utah's first Big 12 conference game. However, it might not be what fans were expecting.

ESPN College Football Insider Pete Thamel reported that Rising is a game-time decision against the Pokes, according to his sources. Thamel expounded on the possibility, saying, "There’s an expectation he’ll attempt to play, but he’s not expected to be 100 percent with an injury on his throwing hand."

It's a saga that seems to always fire back up at inopportune times, and if Rising doesn't play, true freshman Isaac Wilson will be under center for the second straight week, this time in arguably Utah's biggest game of the season.

The betting odds for this heavyweight bout have shifted multiple times this week, partially due to the concerns over Rising. While Wilson produced an impressive performance against Utah State, pundits are skeptical over Utah's chances with him under center.

Kirk Herbstreit echoed that sentiment on College Gameday when the crew picked their matchup winners.

“If Cam Rising plays, they win. If Cam Rising doesn’t, they lose," Herbstreit said.

In a game that could potentially define the rest of Utah's season, this is the last thing the program wants to worry about. With only a few hours to go until kickoff in Stillwater, it'll be interesting to see how the issue plays out.
