Henrico County's 'WOAH' program helps pedestrians stay safe while walking at night

Over a two-week period, four adults and three children were hit by cars in Chesterfield, Henrico, and Richmond. Four of those pedestrians died as a result of their injuries.

Captain P.J. Cimbal from the Chesterfield Police Department gave tips for pedestrians and drivers. He mentioned that Henrico County has a program to help pedestrians stay safe while walking at night. Captain Cimbal agrees that it is a great program for all counties.

    Henrico's WOAH program

In October 2023, the Henrico County Police Division, in collaboration with the Henrico County Government, revamped the former “Watch Your Step!” campaign to ensure public safety awareness for all methods of travel on county roads.

WOAH! stands for "Watch Out Ahead Henrico." Henrico gives free reflective vests to adults and children in the community. The vests can be picked up at the following locations:

    • Henrico County Public Safety Building (7721 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23294)
    • Henrico Police Central Station (7850 Villa Park Drive, Henrico, VA 23228)
    • Henrico Police South Station (561 Eastpark Court, Sandston, VA 23150)
