Royals struggle through 6th straight loss as playoff hopes dwindle

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals are barely hanging on to a highly contested AL Wild Card spot after yet another concerning performance on Saturday, September 21.

The Royals dropped the second game in their series against the San Francisco Giants. 9-0 was the final for Kansas City’s sixth straight loss. The team has combined for only three runs over their last three games.

That’s been a focal point of the Royals’ losing streak. While (aside from today’s game) KC’s pitching has looked decent over the last six, KC bats are hitting just .154 with runners in scoring position.

As mentioned above, KC pitchers have been doing their best to put the team in a chance to win. However, the Royals aren’t going to win many games, especially in October, if they give up four home runs and nine total runs on nine hits.

The Royals’ loss was good news for Cleveland, however, as it secured the Guardians AL Central title. The loss puts KC just a half-game ahead of Minnesota in the AL Wild Card race.

With just seven games remaining, Kansas City still has a good chance of making the postseason, but they’ll need some better performances to close out the regular season. If not, it’s looking like the Twins or the Tigers could swipe the Royals’ postseason.
