PETERSBURG — A person arrested for a shooting Friday afternoon near the Cool Spring area of town has been linked to a 2022 murder in the city’s Pecan Acres community.

Q’Shawn Scott, 28, was picked up Friday in the vicinity of Halifax Street and Baylors Lane when officers responded to a call of shots being fired. In the course of that investigation, police tied Scott to the Sept. 10 shooting death of a man on Cottonwood Drive in Pecan Acres.

Scott has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He also has been served with an outstanding warrant for domestic assault.

Friday’s arrest was the second of the week for a homicide in the city.

Jamal Burrows, 34, was arrested Sept. 17 in Hopewell for the Aug. 6 murder of Devere McKinney in the 200 block of Holly Hill Drive. He has been charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Both Scott and Burrows are being held at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.
