BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Berlin Fire Department rescued two animals from a veterinarian’s office in a strip mall that caught fire Saturday afternoon.

At 4:44p.m., BFD were alerted to smoke coming from the second floor of a building located at 369 New Britain Rd. Fire crews entered the building and located the fire on a  second floor business.

The fire had burned through the roof of the building and was burning the rubber roofing material. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire.

The fire was contained to a single business. Surrounding businesses suffered smoke and water damage.

Two animals at the vet were removed and are currently safe. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The investigation will be led by the Town of Berlin Fire Marshal’s Office.
