Armed Robberies at Construction Sites in Chicago Sparks Concern

Police investigate armed robberies targeting workers in North Lawndale

CHICAGO - Chicago police are actively seeking suspects involved in two armed robberies that occurred at construction sites in North Lawndale, prompting community alarm. These incidents unfolded in broad daylight, with the first reported on September 11 in the 1300 block of South Homan. Just four days later, the same group of suspects allegedly struck again in the 3200 block of West 16th Street.

In the initial incident, three armed assailants confronted construction workers preparing to pour concrete at a site under renovation. Reports indicate that the suspects demanded workers hand over their cell phones to prevent them from contacting authorities. Surveillance footage captured one suspect rummaging through a truck's cab as the group fled the scene with stolen tools. Workers expressed relief that no injuries occurred during the robbery.

Community members voiced shock that such crimes could happen to individuals simply doing their jobs. The subsequent robbery involved up to four suspects who approached a group of two women and five men, again brandishing firearms and demanding valuables. The suspects then escaped in a gray Nissan Murano.

Chicago police believe the suspects are aged between 20 and 26, standing between 5’5″ and 6’0″. They were armed with handguns, one of which may have featured a red handle. Witnesses described the suspects as wearing dark clothing, hooded sweatshirts, and face masks.
