A Kentucky Historical Marker honoring Frank S. Milburn, “Burlington’s Cornfield Edison,” will be unveiled on Thursday, October 3 at 3 p.m at the Old Clerk’s Building, 2965 Gallatin Street in Burlington, across the parking area from the Boone County Administration Building.

The marker was nominated by the Boone County Historical Society who will host a short reception in the Old Clerk’s building following the unveiling. This is a public event and all are welcome.

Hillary Delaney, president of the Boone County Historical Society and a local history specialist at Boone County Public Library, said, “Frank S. Milburn had many talents and interests but was, above all, an inventor. During WWII, Milburn and two assistants began working on a top-secret military project in his Burlington workshop, producing components for the Norden bombsight. With the installation of this historical marker, the Boone County Historical Society is pleased to honor Frank Milburn and share this fascinating aspect of Boone County history with the community.”

The Kentucky Historical Marker Program, administered by the Kentucky Historical Society in cooperation with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, tells Kentucky’s story through on-the-spot history lessons that connect the history, communities, and items housed in the Commonwealth’s many historical organizations.

The program makes Kentucky’s history accessible to the public not just on markers along the state’s roadways, but also online at www.history.ky.gov/markers and via the Explore Kentucky History smartphone application available for free at iTunes and Google Play.
