NEW BEDFORD — With a flavorful cuisine such as cachupa, feijoada, or other traditional dishes , ethnic Cape Verdean cuisine can be found at restaurants across the New Bedford area.

That's why we're asking our SouthCoast Today readers to vote for their favorite.

What might be on a Cape Verdean restaurant's menu

According to Crumb-Snatched.com , Cape Verdean food is known for its use of fresh, local ingredients and its rich blend of flavors from different cultures. Whether you're looking to try a hearty stew or a tasty fried pastry, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Cape Verdean cuisine.

Some of the most popular dishes include the cachupa which is considered the national dish of Cape Verde. It is a stew made with beans, corn, vegetables, and meat (often pork, chicken, or fish). It can be served in various ways, with different types of meat and vegetables added.

More: Dunkin' released its Dunkalatte. But these New Bedford area cafes have their own already.

Canja is a chicken and rice soup that is commonly served as a comfort food in Cape Verde. It is made with chicken, rice, and vegetables, and sometimes includes other ingredients like tomatoes or beans. Xerém is a traditional corn-based dish that is made with cornmeal, onions, and a variety of meats or seafood. It is similar to polenta and is often served as a side dish or as part of a larger meal.

Caldo de peixe is a fish stew made with a variety of local fish, vegetables, and spices. It is a staple dish in coastal areas of Cape Verde, as well as pastel, which are small, deep-fried pastries filled with a variety of ingredients such as tuna, chicken, or vegetables. They are often served as a snack or appetizer.

More: Mirasol's Cafe opens in Fairhaven. Here's what to expect at the new spot.

It's time to vote for your favorite

From places such as Izzy's to Churrascaria Novo Mundo, the New Bedford area has a few spots to order some of these tasty dishes. According to NB Eats , even Lighthouse Tavern NB is serving traditional cachupa Fridays through Sundays.

We want to know where you go.

The poll is open until Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 11:59 p.m., so don't miss your chance to cast your vote for your go-to spot.
