    Library plans music, gaming and sewing programs

    CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., has scheduled the following events:

    • The Victor Samalot Duo will present “Que Bueno,” a one-hour musical performance through the diversity of Latin music, at 6 p.m. Monday. The duo will perform selections from artists such as Santana, Santo and Johnny, Ritchie Valens, Antonio Carlos Jobin. Registration is requested.
    • Teen Game Time: Jackbox Gaming will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for teens in grades 6-12. A personal device is required to participate. Snacks will be provided. Registration is requested.
    • Sewing a Zigzag Basket will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 30. Learn how to sew on a sewing machine with this project for beginners. All materials will be supplied. Register for one half-hour time slot only.

    Canton Mural Fest is Saturday

    CANTON – Mural Fest will take place in downtown Canton’s Warehouse District from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Mural Fest is a celebration of art, culture and community in downtown Canton as participants transform blank walls into works of art.

    YMCA of Central Stark County gets grant to adapt fitness equipment

    CANTON – The YMCA of Central Stark County has been awarded $5,152 through the 2024 Direct Effect 1st Cycle Quality of Life grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. This grant will support the YMCA's Community Fitness Accessibility Project, aimed at enhancing the lives of people living with paralysis and their families.

    The grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living.

    The YMCA will purchase adaptive accessories at the Paul & Carol David branch to make some current equipment more accessible to people living with paralysis and disability. Certified training staff will be trained to use the equipment.

    Ghost tours Saturday at Palace Theatre

    CANTON – The Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, will present two ghost investigations on Saturday as part of the World’s Largest Ghost Hunt.

    The family-friendly tour for ages 10 and older is from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $30 per person. The tour for adults only is from 9 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $40 per person. For more information and to buy tickets, visit cantonpalacetheatre.org.

    This tour will cover the theater, so there will be plenty of walking and stairs. Tours are limited to 30 participants. All proceeds benefit the restoration of the theater.

    Soup at Six program is ‘Secret Societies’

    CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, will present the program "Secret Societies” at 6 p.m. Oct. 3.

    Science Director Lynette Reiner will unveil the mysteries of the Knights Templar, explore the ancient rites of the Freemasons, and decode the symbolism of the illuminati. Attendees will learn about the groups’ influence on art, politics and culture. As a special treat for guests, the legendary Freemason Sword of President McKinley will be on view that night only. This program is sponsored by the Canton Masonic Association.

    The cost is $25 per person and includes soup, bread, dessert, a beverage and the program. Prepaid reservations are required; call 330-455-7043 or visit the events tab on the museum’s website at www.McKinleyMuseum.org. The reservation deadline is Friday.

    Stark County Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Oct. 5

    CANTON – The Alzheimer’s Association will hold a Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 5 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., with the Promise Garden Ceremony at 9:45 and the walk immediately afterward.

    Canton Woman’s Club Holiday Boutique set

    CANTON − The annual Canton Woman’s Club Holiday Boutique will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 4 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at the historic Victorian house at 822 Market Ave N.

    Lunch will be available in the Canton Woman’s Club Cafe from opening until two hours before closing both days. Admission and parking are free.     Walk for the Angels is Oct. 12

    JACKSON TWP. – The 20th annual Walk for the Angels will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at Jackson North Park, 7660 Fulton Drive NW.

    Walk shirts are available for purchase on the Print Bar LLC online store at https://www.printbarllc.com/gods-tiny-angels. Shirts are available in adult and youth sizes. The online store closes Friday. Baby names will be listed on the back of the walk shirts and can be submitted when ordering the shirts.

    Massillon Museum displays vintage vinyl album artwork

    MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery is filled with vintage record album covers in the new exhibition “On the Record” through Oct. 27. A free public reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19.

    The vinyl album artwork comes from the collections of Massillon Public Library Vinyl Club members and friends. In addition to album covers, music lovers will be able to select and play a tune on a 1951 Seeburg 100B jukebox on loan from Phillip Elum.

    Copies of new, unopened vinyl albums will be part of a silent auction at the exhibition reception Oct. 19. Funds raised will benefit the Massillon Museum.

    Massillon Public Library Vinyl Club, open free to teens and adults, meets in the main branch auditorium on the third Monday of every month. Two presenters at each session address topics such as bootlegs, genres, specific artists and bands, and the process of pressing vinyl records.

    Historical Society car show next Sunday

    NAVARRE – The Navarre-Bethlehem Township Historical Society will hold its annual car show on Sept. 29, with setup beginning at 9 a.m.

    There will be trophies, dash plaques and food. All vehicles will be displayed across from Nickles Bakery at Main and Center streets. Judging will begin at 1 p.m. with trophies presented at 4 p.m.

    North Canton Lions Club to hold craft show

    NORTH CANTON – The North Canton Lions Club will hold a fall craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at North Canton Hoover High School. Admission is free. A 10-by-5-foot vendor space costs $50, with an additional cost of $5 if electricity is needed. Applications must be received by Oct. 19.     Holocaust survivor to speak

    NORTH CANTON – Holocaust survivor Helen Marks and her daughter, Elisse Gabriel, will speak at the North Canton Public Library, 185 N. Main St., from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.     Stark Parks plans activities this week

    Stark Parks has scheduled the following activities this week. To register, or for more information, visit StarkParks.com.

    • The Adventure Kids program at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park, 5712 12th St. NW, Perry Township, will present Marvelous Mushrooms for children ages 6 to 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will learn about fungi, read a story, get creative with a craft and then look for fungi. Be prepared to venture outside. The program is free, but registration is required.
    • The annual Ranger for a Day event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park, 5712 12th St. NW, Perry Township. Kids can try out different activity stations at the free event. At 4 p.m., guests can watch K-9 Ranger Gunnar demonstrate his skills.
    • The class Beekeeping 101: Changing Seasons will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Quail Hollow Park, 13480 Congress Lake Ave. NE, Lake Township. Learn about what honeybees are doing to prepare for fall. Then suit up and head to the hives to get a closer look at the bees in action. Preregistration is required due to the limited number of bee suits, and the class is for ages 13 and up. The fee is $5 for in-county residents and $7 for out-of-county residents.
