The Bible's Enduring Relevance: Spreading God's Word at County Fair

The most widely produced book in the entire world, the B I B L E, is still relevant
today; At least for Martin Amerson it is. "Making the Word of God available to everyone" (gideon.org), appears to be what Mr. Amerson was doing Saturday night Sept. 21, 2024. Amerson, a member of Peach Church in Wilson, NC, was definitely not ashamed of the gospel as he freely offered up Gideon Bibles with an outstretched hand. The irony of the oustretched hand is that Jesus did the same for humanity with his work at the cross.

The huge smile and warm heart given by Amerson as he handed out free bibles at the Wilson County Fair, is truly what helps bring to life the biblical passage of Matthew 24:14 (NIV) " And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come". There is a saying that is befiiting of Amerson's kindness, "People would rather see a sermon than hear one".

Not sure who's idea it was to place Gideon Bibles at the entrance of the county fair, but Mr. Amerson was certainly responsible in his evangelistic duties. He truly exhibited the slogan found on the front of his business card "Serving, Witnessing, and Distibuting God's Word".

Handing out these Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (BIBLE) is what Gideons have been doing since 1908 and it is good to know that the work is still being done in 2024, even on a Saturday night at a county fair.
