There’s something magical about Sunday mornings in our family. It’s the one day of the week where we all gather around the breakfast table, share stories, and savor Grandma’s famous pancakes. The recipe itself is a treasure—handed down from my great-grandmother, who used to make them for her children on a tiny wood stove in their farmhouse. Over time, it’s become more than just pancakes; it’s a tradition that brings our family together.

I remember waking up as a kid to the smell of melted butter and warm syrup. Grandma would be standing by the stove, her apron dusted with flour, flipping these golden, fluffy pancakes with the same skill she’s had for years. She always told me that the secret wasn’t just in the ingredients but the love poured into each batch.

Now that I make them for my own family, I’ve realized that pancakes, like memories, are made to be shared. This recipe is simple, but its history is rich. Every bite reminds me of home, warmth, and the joy of tradition.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • ½ tsp baking soda
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk
    • 2 large eggs
    • ¼ cup melted butter (plus extra for cooking)
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

    Instructions:

    1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    2. In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
    3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. A few lumps are okay—overmixing can make the pancakes tough.
    4. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly butter the surface.
    5. Pour ¼ cup of the batter onto the griddle for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook until the other side is golden brown.
    6. Serve with your favorite toppings: maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, or even a dollop of homemade jam.
