Watch Vince Gill Take Vocal Lead and Steal the Show at the Eagles’ Las Vegas Sphere Debut

Formed during the 1970s, the Eagles not only sold over 200 million albums but also played on some of the biggest stages in the world. But even with decades of experience in the music industry, nothing prepared them for the Las Vegas Sphere. Since it opened, the Sphere offered a unique experience for fans. Using the newest technology, the Sphere appeared to engulf the audience with mesmerizing visuals. Seeing the massive opportunity the Sphere could bring to music, countless bands have clamored to play at the venue. And on Friday, the Eagles took the stage at the Sphere with none other than Vince Gill.

Back in 2016, the Eagles mourned the death of Glenn Frey. With fans showing their love and support for Frey, the band needed to look for a new member. Given the fame that followed Gill, it was only a matter of time before he got the call. And when it came, he jumped at the chance, joining the Eagles in 2017. While performing songs like “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Take it to the Limit”, the night wouldn’t be complete without “Heartache Tonight.”

Vince Gill Knows His Role In The Eagles

When looking at the history of “Heartache Tonight”, the song happened thanks to Frey and Don Henley, who wrote the song together. But they also received a little help from stars like Bob Seger and J.D. Souther. With Souther recently passing away, Henley paid tribute to him during the concert at the Sphere. “I want to acknowledge the co-writer of that song who we lost three days ago, Mr. J.D. Souther. J.D. is someone you may know played a pivotal role in the Eagles. He wasn’t in the band, but he certainly co-wrote some of our biggest hits.”

While spending several years with the Eagles, Gill once discussed his role in the band, declaring, “I don’t take ownership of a single note within that music because I didn’t create any of it. That would be foolish of me to do, though I do have enough respect for it that I really want to try to honor the songs and be respectful of what they are.”

Revealing his main job, Gill concluded, “The most important thing is that I don’t put my spin on things. The beauty of what this band is, as it is today, is that we replicate those songs verbatim.”
