The former site of beloved fine-dining restaurant The Left Bank will soon "Bloom" as a new eatery focusing on New American cuisine.

According to a news release from Royal Square Development and Construction, restaurateur Victor Claffey is gearing up to open a restaurant called Bloom at 120 N. George St. in York's dining district.

Claffey is an Irish native with two decades of restaurant experience in Ireland and the U.S., according to the news release.

"I think there is a great opportunity in York," said Claffey, whose wife is from Lititz.

The couple had been living in Minnesota, where Claffey owned a gastropub, but they decided to move to Central Pennsylvania after having two children in the early 2020s, according to the release.

"I really felt like we could bring something that is new and fresh to the area," said Claffey.

David Albright bought The Left Bank in 1998 and sold it in 2017 to Sean and Mandy Arnold. The Arnolds closed the restaurant at the end of 2023 and listed it for sale.

"It's bittersweet, but we are overjoyed to pass the torch to the new owners who are just as passionate about this space as we have been," the Arnolds wrote in a Facebook post.

Restaurant 120 LLC, a real estate and investment partnership affiliated with York-based Royal Square Development and Construction, bought the site, paying $825,000 for the real estate, according to the news release. The property also has a dozen apartments.

The sale also included a liquor license, as well as furniture, fixture and equipment, according to the news release. Lancaster-based TRUE Commercial Real Estate had listed the property. Claffey will be leasing the restaurant space.

Claffey plans to remodel the restaurant and hopes to open between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
