Motorist, horse dead after crash on 15 Freeway in Norco

A horse and a person were killed in a crash in Norco early Sunday.

The Riverside County Fire Department said the collision between a single vehicle and a horse occurred on the 15 Freeway near the Sixth Street exit around 2:05 a.m.

“Upon arrival, firefighters declared one victim and a horse [deceased] at the scene,” fire officials stated in a post to X . “The other patient was transported by ground ambulance with minor injuries.”

Why the horse was on the freeway was not immediately clear, but according to news stringer service OnSceneTV, the horse had escaped from a trailer being towed by a truck and was running through lanes when it was struck. That information was not immediately confirmed by law enforcement.

KTLA has reached out to CHP for more details but has yet to receive a response.
