Athlete of the Week: Axel Jackson, Caesar Rodney boys' soccer

CAMDEN — Caesar Rodney High boys’ soccer player Axel Jackson was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.

The junior midfielder netted three goals and an assist out of the Riders’ six total goals in a 2-0 week.

This is Jackson’s first season with CR’s varsity squad. He switched MLS Next teams this year so that he’d be able to play in high school, too.

Jackson last played for the Riders on its junior varsity two seasons ago.

“Axel is the linchpin of our midfield playing DCM and with his vision and skill is able to control the run of play,” said Riders’ coach Dwayne Lavender. “(He is) a greater two-footed distributor and shooter of the ball. He has been a massive boost to our CR squad.”

The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
