Austin Teets reaches Southern League Championship, as conditioning coach for Rays affiliate

MONTGOMERY, A.L. (WETM) – Horseheads grad Austin Teets has a shot to earn a championship ring.

Horseheads’ Austin Teets has had an impressive baseball journey and will now have a shot to earn championship gold. Teets serves as the strength and conditioning coach for the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Biscuits are wrapping up their season, battling for in their 1st Southern League Championship Series since 2021.

Montgomery fell in Game 1 of the series 7-2, to the Birmingham Barons on Sunday, and will hit the road for the final 2 contests. Game 2 of the championship is set for Tuesday at 8 p.m. E.T. and the if necessary 3rd game, is slated for the same time on Wednesday. The Biscuits took the semifinal series 2-1 over the Biloxi Shuckers this past Friday, and will be looking for their 1st league title since the team went back-to-back in 2007.

For Teets, the road to the MiLB involved many familiar faces and a lot of hard work. After an impressive baseball career at Horseheads High School and Finger Lakes Community College, Teets furthered his education, before landing an assistant strength and conditioning position at Elmira College. After EC, the 2015 Horseheads grad interned with the Seattle Mariners organization and Elmira’s own Jeff Mathers. Following his time with Mathers, the Tampa Bay Rays organization offered Teets his current position in Montgomery, Alabama.

Along with Mathers, Teets encountered and worked alongside several other familiar faces, like Josh Kirkwood, Mikey Limoncelli, and Alissa Rice . Rice has since moved on to another opportunity, designing NFL Nike Apparel at Fanatics.
