KIEL — Lakeside Lutheran’s boys soccer team went 2-1 to place third at Saturday’s Kiel Invitational.

The Warriors (5-4-1) started the day with a 2-0 win over Manitowoc Lincoln, then fell 2-0 to Kiel before topping Monroe, 1-0.

“It felt good to walk away with two wins today in the heat while missing some key players,” Lakeside assistant boys soccer coach Phil Dretske said. “Manitowoc Lincoln and Kiel kept us on our toes with very physical play.”

Against Manitowoc Lincoln, Easton Wolfram scored on Jeremiah’s Koester’s assist in the 17th minute. Tyler Dahlie doubled Lakeside’s lead in the 33rd minute. Koester was again credited with the assist.

“Koester had some great crosses, one from deep and one across the top of the 18, to put Dahlie and Wolfram in great positions to find the back of the net,” Dretske said.

Kiel’s Emerson Sitzman (31st minute) and Trevin Heller (38th minute) scored in a shutout win over the Warriors.

“Kiel is a great team that limited our opportunities to find space,” Dretske said.

Versus the Cheesemakers, Dahlie’s 16th minute goal proved to be the difference. Micah Schwartz assisted on the goal.

“We were much more disciplined and were able to control the tempo throughout versus Monroe,” Dretske said. “Their keeper made some great saves to keep the game close.

“We walk away from the day with some great experience to prepare us for the heart of the season coming up with two conference games next week.”

Lakeside goalie Joah Robinson made 10 total saves on the day, including six in the Kiel game.

TUESDAY’S RESULTEaston Wolfram netted a second-half hat trick as Lakeside Lutheran’s boys soccer team surged past host Lodi 6-1 in Capitol Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Lakeside’s Aisiah Chaudhary hit an early equalizer, converting off an assist by Josef Rupnow in the seventh minute.

In the 21st minute, Tyler Dahlie buried a strong kick off a rebound from the keeper in the midst of a corner kick scramble.

Rupnow gave the Warriors (3-3-1, 1-1-0 in conference) a 3-1 lead in the 39th minute, placing the ball in the corner of the goal after a long through ball from Wolfram.

Wolfram put the game out of reach early in the second period, scoring in the 41st, 42nd and 45th minutes. Rupnow assisted on the first goal, which saw Wolfram produce a strong finish from the top of the box. Chaudhary was credited with the assist in the 42nd after a layback pass for a blasted Wolfram shot that stayed low enough to find the back corner of the net.

“I wasn’t super happy with being asleep in the first 15 seconds in the game, allowing them to score so quickly and easily,” Lakeside boys soccer coach Eric Dorn said. “However, our guys dug in and worked back from that. We’ve been in a scoring drought, so we’ve talked about what we did that made us successful in the first couple of games.

“One of the biggest things was, “don’t overcomplicate it.” We just have to play sound fundamental soccer and we’ll be okay. I think we had gotten in our heads a bit during that three-game stretch.

“These guys turned their frustration into determination and I’m proud of them for bouncing back and reminding themselves of the kind of soccer that we can play.”
