FL's Most Populated City Will Reportedly Have A Winn Dixie Convert To Aldi In $1.75 Million Project

By now, many Floridians realize that it's possible that their local Winn Dixie could become an Aldi due to its purchase of 400 Winn Dixie stores last year. As a result, Florida cities such as Deltona, Ocala, The Villages, and Pensacola are losing some Winn Dixies as they will be converted to Aldi. Jacksonville was not yet on the list. But now, a Jacksonville location has reportedly been added.

About The Location In Question: The Winn Dixie located at 6060-10 Fort Caroline Road will reportedly become an Aldi, according to Gulflive.com. According to the Jax Daily Record, the city of Jacksonville is reviewing a permit application for the Winn-Dixie to be converted into an Aldi store with a project that totals $1.75 million.

The Winn Dixie earns 4.0 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Many patrons were complimentary of the store and staff itself but were critical that, since a remodel, the store is reportedly relying heavily on self-checkout.

A reviewer named Justin wrote, in part:

"I've got to say, I'm a regular here and have been for years. The staff is great, friendly, and even the employees who are newer and learning are willing to help find an item they may not be familiar with. Since the remodel, the store has been great. But the self-checkout is a sore spot. While a simple process, it is like every self-checkout at any store location anywhere..."

And a reviewer named Rusty wrote, in part:

"I'm glad they're remodeling this dump! Now they can't afford employees! I work all week (working) long hours to come to this store and have to check myself out. I will not work hard all week to come into a store to spend my money for them to get free labor out of me..."

Many Aldi stores also have self-checkout and the retailer is currently testing "ALDIgo checkout-free shopping" in some markets. The technology allows shoppers to check out without having to scan items.

Jacksonville is the Sunshine State's most populated city.

Aren't these owned by German corporations? If so there goes another piece.

Useless purchase by Aldi. This will surely be their demise.
