Meghan Markle recently opened up about where she found “safety” in the past.

Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle secretly traveled to New York City in 2019 in search of the "safety" she needed. Notably, at the time, Meghan and Prince Harry held senior royal positions. She nevertheless took issue with the media attention that accompanied the title.

According to media reports, the Duchess of Sussex went incognito for her NYC trip to watch Serena Williams play in the US Open.

Before anybody could guess that she had arrived in town, she went for a stroll to a bookstore. The 43-year-old Duchess of Sussex said to the assembly, "For me, sneaking to New York five years ago was a big deal," explaining how she wore a cap and kept her head down. The safety of what I was craving, I knew I could find in a bookstore, but I still felt very uncomfortable being in public.

Meghan gave a speech during the first weekend of Godmothers, a bookstore founded by Victoria Jackson, the mogul of cosmetics, and literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh. Numerous other celebrities were present at the celebrations. Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Ted Sarandos, the CEO of Netflix, and Jane Lynch, are some of them, along with Meghan and Harry.

“What is Godmothers to us?” Rudolph Walsh said, it is somebody who roots for you, who supports you, who advocates for you. It’s somebody who is found, family.” "Many times, it is the younger person who is teaching the older person something," she added.

When the 39-year-old Duke of Sussex was asked for a book recommendation, he silently pointed to his memoir, Spare, which was on display in the store.

According to the reports, it was Harry who named the shop. He referred to Winfrey Jackson and Rudolph Walsh as his "fairy godmothers" when he thanked them for their support at his book signing for Spare in Beverly Hills. "There is only one thing you can name it: godmothers," Winfrey informed the two founders as the store's plans started to come together.

Godmothers has a feature called "Our Local Authors," where books by Rob Lowe, Cameron Diaz, Winfrey, DeGeneres, and other authors are on display alongside Harry's memoir and Markle's children's book, "The Bench."

Godmothers is tucked away on a corner in Montecito, a celebrity hotspot that is home to A-list celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Adam Levine, and Ariana Grande.

In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned from their positions as senior members of the royal family. After relocating to California, the couple—who are now parents to two children—abandoned their official residence in the UK.
