A Hancock woman was injured last week when the motorcycle sidecar she was riding in collided with a deer. Mary Nangle, 70, is recovering in a Bangor hospital after the crash.

The crash happened when Nangle was riding in the sidecar as her husband, Richard Nangle, was driving the motorcycle east on Route 1 in Hancock around 7 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

After the motorcycle struck a deer that ran into the road, the crash knocked Mary Nangle unconscious and unresponsive to subsequent medical attention, police said. She was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The motorcycle, a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 1600, suffered minor damage, and Richard Nangle was not injured, police said. Most of the impact was on the sidecar where Mary Nangle was riding. Both Nangles were wearing helmets at the time of the collision, police said.

A spokesperson with the Bangor hospital said Monday that they had no information about Mary Nangle.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
