YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Boardman man Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court pleaded no contest in a drug case stemming from a traffic stop on the South Side.

Ryan Brown, 29, was found guilty by Judge John Durkin after he entered his plea to a charge of possession of drugs, a third-degree felony.

Sentencing will be at a later date. Brown faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

He was originally charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a second-degree felony, but the charge was amended in exchange for his plea.

Brown was charged after his arrest on May 10, 2023, when a car he was driving was pulled over by an Ohio State Highway trooper on East Philadelphia Avenue for an improper turn.

Reports said Brown appeared very nervous when speaking to the trooper and he also had an expired driver’s license.

The trooper searched the car and found methamphetamine that was in a shoe box in the trunk, reports said, as well as $1,816 cash.

Brown is free on bond and Judge Durkin continued his bond pending sentencing.

Sounds like an open and shut case , why was it plea bargained down ? The longer a drug dealer is off the street the better, especially with these harder drugs flooding the market now.....
