With how big FPS gaming is, it may be hard to decide which one is right to play but to help make it easier, we at CGM recommend these five FPS games to check out in 2024!

FPS games have come very far from what they were before, with Maze World being the first FPS game to be released on PC in the 70s. However, the FPS genre gained massive popularity with the release of DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D in the early 90s. The genre has grown a lot as we can play with friends and offer fun gimmicks to stand out from other games in the genre. But with how many games there are, you may wonder what games are worth playing in 2024 if you are looking for something new to play or to step your toe into the iconic genre.  Here are five of our favourite FPS recommendations you should check out in 2024!

Spectre Divide is a competitive 3v3 tactical shooter game with a mechanic called Duality. Released on September 3rd, 2024, by Mountaintop Studios in partnership with Shroud, the game uses a Duality mechanic to switch with two bodies to defend two sites at once, cover your cross, and trade yourself. With the mechanic, your second body is called the Spectre, allowing you to switch places at any time to outplay the enemy team, make strategic plans, and cover multiple sites. For the competitive players, this will be great as you could earn ranks by playing solo or as a team in ranked matchmaking, picking from eight sponsor kits to match your gameplay style, and features 20 different weapons to use.

    3. Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 is a classic FPS game released by Valve in 2007 on PC that still strives today. Despite being active for many years, new players should not have to worry as it is more of a relaxing yet chaotic game to play if you are not into competitive games. The game features several game modes, from Capture the Flags, Control Point, Payload, Arena, King of the Hill, and more, along with the ability to play as nine classes that could be altered in terms of gameplay styles because of weapons and perks and unlock customizable cosmetics for your mains from either drops, crafting, buying, or trading with the community.

    2. Call of Duty: Warzone

Being released on March 10, 2020, by Activision, Call of Duty: Warzone is a battle royal FPS game with many modes to partake in, either solo or with a team. What makes the battle royal mode unique compared to other games is the chance to respawn, but you will need to win a 1v1 match against other players in the Gulag for the chance to return. But in terms of modes, Resurgence takes the concept of battle royal and adds a twist as it emphasizes faster-paced gameplay and aggressive playstyle in the maps, letting the players respawn right away but as long as their teammates are still alive.

    1. Valorant

Released on July 2nd, 2020, by Riot Games, Valorant is a competitive tactical shooter game. You have 13 rounds to attack and defend your side using pin-point accurate gameplay and tactical abilities, as you will only have one life per round. But as you play the game competitive or unranked, you will need to learn many agents to find which is right for you to ensure you emerge victorious in each round. Yet if you are very new to tactical FPS games, you can learn and practice your aiming by playing in Deathmatch, or if you are just looking for a shorter match time while alone, the Spike Rush mode is great as it is a faster-paced game mode.

Originally a PC-only game, the console player can rejoice since as of recently, Valorant has arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S!

That wraps up our list of FPS games we recommend checking out in 2024! Are there any games you are looking to try out?
