Six Tennessee schools make 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools list

Six Tennessee schools made the 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools list.

The Tennessee schools are among 356 nationwide recognized by the U.S. Department of Education this year.

"This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups," the department said in a news release. "The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools reflect the full diversity of American education and serve students from all backgrounds."

The department determines the list based one of of two categories:

• High-performing schools that rank as the best in their state based on state or nationally normed testing
• Schools closing achievement gaps between all students, which can include students experiencing financial hardships, students who are immigrants, students of color and others.

"This national recognition is a remarkable achievement to showcase how these educators and school and district leaders are dedicated to providing opportunities for all students to succeed each and every day," Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds said in a news release.

Tennessee 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools

• Spanish Immersion at Barksdale in Clarksville (Clarksville-Montgomery Public Schools)
• Early College High School in Nashville (Metro Nashville Public Schools)
• Glenwood Elementary School in Oak Ridge (Oak Ridge Schools)
• Miller Perry Elementary School in Kingsport (Sullivan County Schools)
• Merrol Hyde Magnet School in Hendersonville (Sumner County Schools)
• Jordan Elementary School in Brentwood (Williamson County Schools)
