A Wilson man is charged with attempted murder after police say he shot a Goldsboro man in the buttocks Friday night.

Victor Lemont Lucas, 62, of 407 Reid St. E., is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, according to a release from Sgt. Eric McInerny, public information officer with the Wilson Police Department.

McInerny said officers responded to a report of a gunshot on the 400 block of Reid Street at 11:52 p.m.

“Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, Robertson Paris, 51, of Goldsboro, suffering from a gunshot wound to the buttock,” McInerny said. “While officers were on scene, the suspect, Lucas, approached officers and explained that he was the person that shot Paris.”

The shooting victim was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lucas was charged and placed in the Wilson County Detention Center without bond.

According to the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction website, Lucas has prior convictions on gun-related charges, assaults inflicting serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon. He spent about two years in the state prison system.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

Seems like the victim was trying to get away since he was shot in his butt. The fact that Lucas turned himself in to law enforcement is a good thing, although that's highly unusual in these days that we're living in.
