A pursuit came to a crashing end in Canyon Country early Sunday morning with the driver still on the run.

Around 2:10 a.m. Sunday, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area officer initiated an enforcement stop on a gray Honda for speeding and driving without lights, on the northbound 14 Freeway south of Placerita Canyon Road, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“The vehicle exited on Placerita Canyon Road and stopped on the right shoulder. Upon contacting the driver, the driver accelerated the vehicle continuing eastbound on Placerita Canyon Road at speeds exceeding 100 mph, through little to no traffic.”

The pursuit turned northbound onto Sand Canyon Road where the vehicle crashed into an embankment, south of Lost Canyon Road, according to Greengard.

The driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene from officers into a creek and remains at large as of the publication of this article.

However, the passengers in the vehicle surrendered to officers.

A handgun was recovered, according to officials.
