WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) — An investigation is underway after a person was hit by a car in West Bloomfield Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the area of Square Lake and Middlebelt Roads around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 23 after a crash involving a single car and a pedestrian.

First responders rendered aid to the victim before rushing them to the hospital with what police described as “severe life-threatening injuries.” In a Monday evening update, West Bloomfield police officials said the victim's injuries are "serious," but they are expected to survive.

Authorities did not immediately release any information about the victim and it was not clear what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.

The crash left Middlebelt shut down in both directions between Orchard Lake and Square Lake until about 7 p.m.

Officials did not say whether the driver remained at the scene following the crash.
