    Among comparisons for Rays’ Junior Caminero: the next Miguel Cabrera?

    Junior Caminero's agent recently suggested that, at 21 years old, the Rays third baseman projects as the new version of retired Tigers great Miguel Cabrera. [ JEFFEREE WOO | Times ]

    The Rays roll into a three-game series in Detroit Tuesday still with a chance — though extremely slim and likely requiring a sweep — to play their way into a wild-card playoff berth.

    For Junior Caminero, their young and talented third baseman, the visit to Comerica Park also will provide another measure — at least theoretically— of an idea pitched by his agent:

    That, at 21 years old, Caminero projects as the new version of retired Tigers great Miguel Cabrera.

    “He’s Miguel Cabrera v2,” agent Rafa Nieves posted on social media Aug.

    Cincinnati Reds coined Eric Davis the next Willie Mays. Didn't help his career one bit with all the psychological pressure to perform at WM level just out of his rookie season. Lesson for Rays...tread lightly with expectations.
