MYERSVILLE, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Traffic congestion on Interstate 70 has been a lingering concern for drivers in western Maryland.

Drivers say it is a challenge, especially at dusk and overnight when trucks cannot find parking at rest areas.

However, construction at the South Mountain rest stop, just west of Myersville, could change that. The work is part of an $8.1 million expansion of truck parking facilities.

“Nighttime is when we have all the trouble,” Rick, a trucker, told DC News Now. “And then, Lord, if you have a bad accident along the highway out here then, they’re all parking along the highway because you run out of time. You have to get off the highway somewhere.”

The funds for the project were provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation to the Maryland State Highway Administration.
