DAPHNE, Ala. ( WKRG )— The Daphne City Council just approved the budget to add a new splash pad and new playground equipment to the Joe Louis Patrick Park in Daphmont.

    PARK LOCATION:

Both projects are expected to cost around $250,000 total.

The park currently has playground equipment for younger children. The new playground infrastructure will be specifically for children 8- to -10 years old.

UPDATE: 1 death confirmed in Moffett Road crash, Public Safety Alert issued

Daphne Mayor Robin LeJune told News 5 that the splash pad coming to Daphne will be eco-friendly.

“The great thing about our splash pad is we use a recirculating water system,” said Mayor LeJune. “So, we’re not just purchasing water to drain away it recirculates reusable water so it’s very environmentally sound.”

These improvements come only a few years after the new multi-purpose field at the same park. The city will also begin renovations on the Ruff Wilson Youth Center, adjacent to the park.

The Daphmont community played a huge part in the developmental stage; by advocating for these new additions. The mayor said the timeline for the completion of the projects is still in the air, but the city hopes to have both projects completed by Summer 2025.
