CHICAGO — You know things are bad when the king of horror is feeling sympathetic.

Stephen King had some encouraging words for White Sox fans amidst their historically horrid (and perhaps soon-to-be recording breaking for all the wrong reasons) season.

“Chicago White Sox fans, I feel your pain. As a fan of those other Sox, I tried to switch my loyalty to Cleveland during one particularly awful season (Butch Hobson, I’m talking about you). I couldn’t do it. Things will get better. They CAN’T get worse,” King wrote on X, formerly Twitter .

White Sox lose 120th game to tie post-1900 record by the 1962 expansion New York Mets

The 77-year-old took to social media Monday, one day after the Sox tied the post-1900 MLB record of 120 losses by the 1962 New York Mets after the San Diego Padres rallied Sunday in later innings to win 4-2.

The Sox begin their last homestand of the season on Tuesday, hosting the Los Angeles Angels for three consecutive games. They then play a season-ending series on the road against the Detroit Tigers.

White Sox left to ponder the magnitude of their record-tying 120 losses

For all of Sox fans’ sake, let’s hope next season doesn’t follow Hollywood rules and produce a less satisfying sequel.
