A new affordable apartment building in New Rochelle has set aside a number of units for domestic violence survivors. Highgarden Tower is conveniently located near the New Rochelle Train Station and the Bee-Line Bus. Officials said it cost $135 million to develop. It has 219 affordable units. Seventy-seven of the apartments are reserved for survivors of domestic violence. One survivor, with the alias "Jean," shared why she wanted to live at the building. She told News 12 crews that her abuser isn't in jail. "It's more of the security than anything else," Jean said. "[Be]cause I've been visiting friends, and you go in their building, and you walk right in, go up the elevator and knock on the door." Survivors also get onsite support for mental health and employment services from a nonprofit called New Destiny Housing.

They shouldn't have any problems renting them out in New Roachelle.
