Eagles' React To 'Dirty Hit' On DeVonta Smith

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles stunned the New Orleans Saints 15-12 at the Ceasars Superdome. A fourth quarter rally by quarterback Jalen Hurts & Co. pushed the Eagles to victory.

Early in the fourth quarter, however, receiver DeVonta Smith suffered a concussion on what his teammates felt was a dirty play. Smith caught the ball, and was being pushed backwards when Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd came running in. The whistle had not blown, and he plowed through Smith.

The former No. 10 overall pick never returned to the field, and now is questionable against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week as he is now in concussion protocol.

Following the game, Smith’s teammates sounded off on the hit that sidelined him.

“That’s the dirtiest s*** I ever saw in football, bro,” safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson said. “Y’all obviously saw that forward progression was stopped. And for them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players, it shows what kind of team that is.”

“Did I think it was dirty? Yeah.,” tackle Jordan Mailata said. “Did I think it was intentional? No—ah, I don’t f****** know. I’ve got to watch it. I’m conflicted as you can tell. I hope Smitty is OK.”

“You see something like Smitty getting hurt today, that’s frustrating,” center Cam Jurgens said. “I hope everybody’s alright. There were a lot of injuries, but it sucks when a player gets hit like that.”

Needless to say, that is something these Eagles won’t forget if these two teams meet in the playoffs. In the meantime, however, they no turn their sights to a showdown with the Bucs on the road next week.
