KHP works to enforce railroad safety

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – State law enforcement agencies are working to bring awareness to railroad safety in Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) is working with Operation LifeSaver, Amtrak Police and other state and federal railroad law enforcement agencies to bring awareness to See Tracks? Think Train Week (ST3Week).

According to a news release from KHP, multiple law enforcement agencies are taking part in “Operation Clear Track” is a program to enforce railroad crossing and trespassing laws throughout the United States.

The goal of See Tracks? Think Train Week’s “Operation Clear Track” is to reduce pedestrian and driver injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks. Law enforcement will be stationed at targeted railroad grade crossings, handing out railroad safety cards to motorists and pedestrians and issuing warnings and citations to violators.
