UPDATE: Charleston Boulevard at Maryland Parkway reopened to traffic shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A moped driver was hospitalized after a crash involving a dump truck near the downtown Las Vegas area, police said.

It happened at 1:29 p.m. on Monday along Charleston Boulevard and Maryland Parkway.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, the investigation revealed that a 52-year-old female driving the moped attempted to make an eastbound turn onto Charleston Boulevard from a private drive. During the turn, she failed to yield the right of way and collided with the dump truck that was towing a trailer which was also traveling eastbound.

The driver of the dump truck swerved to avoid the moped. The force of the impact caused the woman to overturn the moped. The woman was then thrown from the moped. The driver of the dump truck remained at the scene, police said.

The moped driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Following the crash, Charleston Boulevard was closed in both directions from 14th Street to Maryland Parkway but reopened shortly after 9 p.m.

This is not the best news. It would be great news if it was a fatal accident.
