Police in the city of Monterey are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian this weekend, the department said Monday.

Just after 8 p.m., a pick-up truck being driven by a 23-year-old Salinas man hit a 65-year-old woman in a crosswalk in the area of Del Monte Avenue and Calle Principal, according to police.

The pedestrian, identified as Kathryn Hong, was taken to the hospital with major injuries and she died.

The driver of the pick-up truck immediately stopped after the collision and remained at the scene, police said. He was uninjured. It is not believed at this time that drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision.

This case will be forwarded to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office for review and potential criminal filing of charges, according to police.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Sgt. Greg Galin at (831) 646-3872 or galin@monterey.gov.

To remain anonymous call (831) 646-3840.
