Fog and Unseasonably Warm Weather Expected in Northeast Wisconsin

Patchy fog and temperatures up to 15 degrees above normal forecast for this week.

Scattered Showers Possible Today, Hurricane Remnants May Bring Rain This Weekend

[GREEN BAY] — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:48 AM on September 24, 2024.

Patchy Fog and Isolated Showers Expected Today

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for north-central and northeast Wisconsin. Patchy fog is expected across the region early this morning and again late tonight, particularly west of the Fox Valley and lakeshore. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as visibility may be reduced.

Scattered showers are possible today, mainly in eastern Wisconsin, although no significant precipitation is expected. The region will experience near-normal high temperatures today, ranging from the mid-60s to lower 70s.

Above-Normal Temperatures Forecast Through the Week

Starting midweek, temperatures are forecasted to soar to 10 to 15 degrees above normal, peaking in the mid-70s to lower 80s through next Monday. Green Bay and the Fox Valley may experience particularly warm conditions, with some areas possibly hitting 80 degrees. This unseasonably warm weather is expected to persist, making it feel more like summer than early fall.

Potential Impact of Hurricane Helene This Weekend

Attention turns to the remnants of Hurricane Helene, which is currently developing in the Gulf of Mexico. While its exact track remains uncertain, there is a chance of rain in northeast Wisconsin this weekend as the storm's moisture could reach the region. Rainfall amounts are still unclear, but any precipitation is likely to occur south of Highway 29.

Clear Skies and Fog Possible on Wednesday

On Wednesday, high pressure will bring abundant sunshine and warmer temperatures, reaching the lower to mid-70s. Patchy fog may develop again in north-central and central Wisconsin late Wednesday night. Travelers should remain vigilant, especially in low-lying areas where fog could form.

Aviation Concerns: Fog and Low Visibility

Pilots operating in the area should be aware of potential fog development, particularly in central and north-central Wisconsin during the early morning hours. Mid and high-level clouds are expected to spread across the region overnight, which could limit fog formation, but visibility may still be reduced in some areas.
