ESPN college football analyst Rece Davis was joined by Pete Thamel and Ryan McGee on the latest "College GameDay Podcast." The crew discussed some of the best teams and players in the nation ahead of a hectic Week 5 slate in college football.

Before the attention turns to Week 5, with some incredible games on the horizon like Georgia at Alabama, Illinois at Penn State and Louisville at Notre Dame, Davis made sure to discuss one matchup from Week 4.

The ESPN podcast started with the panel's discussion of the Colorado Buffaloes' 38-31 overtime victory over the Baylor Bears.

Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders led CU into overtime after connecting on a Hail Mary touchdown in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Travis Hunter then sealed the game with a forced fumble on the goal line in overtime.

Davis seemed to be paying close attention to the game. After the masterful performance by Hunter, Davis mentioned that the wide receiver-cornerback star for the Buffaloes should be considered the leading candidate for the Heisman trophy award.

The ESPN analyst was confident in saying Hunter is the best player in the country, given his prowess on offense and defense.

"He’s the best player in college football," Davis said. "At this point, who’s a better football player than he is? There’s not one, not in the country. Not anyone that does the same things that he does… He’s the most outstanding player.”

Hunter finished the game against the Bears with seven receptions and 130 receiving yards. He was the Buffaloes' leading receiver and also turned into their most outstanding defensive player with his forced fumble in overtime.

The two-way star has been lighting up the stat sheet all season. After the win over Baylor, Hunter became the first Colorado receiver with five consecutive 100-yard receiving games, which dates back to his performance against Utah in 2023.

So far this season, Hunter has recorded 37 receptions on 472 receiving yards while hauling in five touchdowns.

Hunter has been the engine of the Buffaloes' improved success for the past two seasons. As Davis mentioned, there may be other players who have been producing at a high level in 2024, but Hunter has been a star on offense and defense, unlike any other Heisman candidate.
