When this flow artist brought her dragon poi to Millenium Park, she wasn’t expecting to inspire the next generation. However, as soon as a little boy saw her making mesmerizing shapes with this magical prop, he was hooked. Immediately, he had to know where this artist had acquired her beautiful dragon. Seeing his enthusiasm, she decided to do him one better.

“Do you want to try it?” the artist asked.

MelodieFlows captured her wholesome encounter with the young boy in a sweet video on social media. This child was so excited when he got a turn with the dragon poi! Of course, using this prop was a lot harder than the artist had made it look. However, even though the boy didn’t really know what he was doing, it still looks like he had the time of his life. It was so kind of Melodie to share the spotlight with this kid!

“He tried something new!” she wrote in her video. “The important thing is that he wasn’t afraid to try. One day, he may be a dragon master!”

This adorable video has received over seven million views. Commenters commended the flow artist for encouraging the young boy to try his hand at maneuvering the dragon poi.

“You made this kid’s day and maybe started him on the road of a new talent,” wrote one user.

Another added, “I love genuine human interactions… thank you for sharing with him.”

According to the Flow Arts Institute , modern poi has its roots in a long and rich tradition from the Maori people of New Zealand. This art form has changed a lot over the years, and it keeps on developing as new creators take it up. That’s part of why it’s so important for talented artists to share their knowledge with young people — they’re the ones who will keep traditions alive!
